What a fantastic day we had at the Weim Country Gala this weekend!... Perfect weather, great location, beautiful dogs and some of the nicest people around!... We met lots of new dogs and got to say hello to many familiar faces. And, even if only in a few words, we were honored to remember Cookie and Shadow and Bodhi. Our canine guardian angels.

What a wonderful day!!....

I love my job!

My day began with this beautiful duo! Turner (left) and Emma (right). Total sweethearts. Turner has only been with his forever family for a year. He was a rescue and is said to be 50% Golden 25% Visla and 25% mystery... hmmnnnn..... Doesn't much matter to his family though as they love him 100%.

Then I was off to this energetic group! Yep, count'em - SIX! We worked for it but it was worth it!....

These two, Squiggles and Shadow, are the latest additions to the family...

Bonnie & Barbara

Barbara Martin, the Animal Communicator that met with Bodhi and me, stopped into the studio this week with her furry friend Bonnie for a photography session!... Bonnie is an 11 year old yellow lab that still has a spunk in her step! What a pleasure it was to photograph their special connection!

Wags, Willow and Snickers

I've known Dianne for years as our paths cross on the "pet event circuit"; Dianne at the Northern California Weimaraner Rescue booth and me at my pet photography booth. Eventually I became more involved with the FABULOUS Weim Country Gala by donating photography sessions to their fundraiser auction and having my mobile studio at the event. We've long talked about setting up a photography session at Crissy Fields of her four canine companions. Sadly, her GSP passed away in the blink of an eye. Dianne and I have had many emails of support go back and forth in the last few months as our beloveds symptoms started on the same day - her Cookie passing after a few short days and my Bodhi passing after 4 weeks. We decided that we should waste no more time! Today I had the pleasure of photographing her two Weims, Willow and Wags, and Snickers, a Rhodesian mix - all rescues! What fun we had!

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!.... It's hard to believe that little Biella has been with us for a whole year now!... But it's even harder to believe what an important roll she's played in our lives the past few months. Her enthusiasm, love and spirit far surpass her 5lb body. She brought us comfort through our loss of Bodhi and reminded us that there is joy even in sorrowful times. How lucky we are!

Dog Days of Summer at the Westin St. Francis

Our photo booth at the Westin St. Francis Dog Days of Summer event was a hot ticket! Wow! We appreciate everyone that stopped in to have their photo taken! We had a blast and are proud to have helped raised money for the San Francisco SPCA!....

Who can resist Chanel!?...

Recently, at the Dogtopia grand opening, I met the nice people of Four Paws Rescue and one of their adoptable dogs. Chanel is an absolutely adorable little Chihuahua and Italian Greyhound mix. It's hard to believe this 5lb little girl was found wandering the streets of Oakland all by herself! FP saved her from an Oakland animal shelter after she failed her temperament test (a little distrustful of humans she snapped at someone, causing her to fail). That's when FP stepped in. She's spent the last five months in a foster home and is now "home ready". She will make a fantastic furry friend. I have to admit I was quite taken by her!

Simba - The Cool Cat

It's true. Simba really is one cool cat! Upon my arrival, having heard the doorbell, Simba greeted me with a rub against the leg and then he plopped down at my feet. Not a camera shy guy. It would be impossible to recount all the funny and heartwarming stories I was told by Simba's proud and loving 'parents', Suzanne and Conrad. After Simba insistently adopted them five years ago, they have been delighted daily! Let's just say that a paper clip is worth hours of entertainment! He is a unique, once in a lifetime, cat.

Trevin

My first photo session with Trevin was on the day of his last chemo treatment. He is doing very well and I've since had the pleasure of photographing him a few more times. What a good boy he is! Which should come as no surprise since he was originally trained to be an assistance dog for Canine Companions for Independence. He had a career change though and, with his human mom Carol, became a certified therapy dog. More about his story and accomplishments can be read in this SF Gate article. As a therapy dog Trevin has spent years bringing joy and happiness to many, including terminally ill children. Perhaps the person most touched by this angel is the person who least expected it, Carol herself.

The Inevitable....

There’s a thin line between acting too soon and waiting too long. This past month I have done my best to be realistic about what to expect. I tried to be strong. I have tried to be brave. But it is here. “The Time”. Now the tears are flowing. I knew it was coming. But it is unfairly soon. Today Bodhi was unable to pass any bowel movements. That is how this cancer works. It does not slowly decay his body and spirit. His appetite is still good, but the amount going in is not the amount coming out. I’ve watched him strain to produce less and less. I hoped it was my imagination. But it is not. And there is nothing more I, or his vets, can do.

He is now uncomfortable. Toxic is next. I don’t want him to suffer. He has been brave and stoic, loving and comforting. Even tonight, he wants to take my sadness and worries away.

I watch him now, as he is resting this final evening with me… I think he knows. I think he has no fear, unlike myself full of fear. Overwhelmed. How will I survive watching his final breath. My heart already aches too much. My tears won’t stop. But somehow beneath all my grief is gratitude. He has been a loving and loyal friend. I believe Bodhi was meant to be in my life. He has taught me so much and given me so much joy and love. I will thank him for being in my life. For each and every moment spent with him.

By the time anyone reads this Bodhi’s sweet soul will be free…. Free of the aches and pains that plague his body tonight.
